How does it work?

Competitors or their vehicles carry a GPS location unit. The units are small and light enough to put them into a pocket or harness on the back, and they do not influence the performance of the competitor. The units communicate with the SmartWay server via GSM/GPRS channel, and send their location and status data periodically.

The server processes all information from active units and provides a graphical interface for online presentation of the competitors position at the event arena. The server is also available from the internet, where visitors can view the event online or they can replay the race.

The units are remote controlled, their power level and GSM signal strength are reported. The units are able to intelligently store and transmit position data, thus overcome interruptions of GSM coverage on terrains with fragmented relief.
